Good update - you're making great progress.

I noticed something in your code -->

// 44100kHz stereo => 88200 sample rate

I think you may be doubling up the sample rate required. We [humans] can hear up to about 22 kHz. Nyquist therm would dictate doubling that sample rate up to ~44kHz. I don't think you'd need 88200 Hz unless you are sampling in stereo.
