Hi Dixon,

Now I have sent out the emails, I can clarify that we do not require you to tagg your post this time but it DOES need to be posted in the Design for a Cause - Design Challenge space.

Tags will not pull a blog post into the correct space.

I hope that is more clear.

I'm confused here. When I read the email you had sent it says tag is not required this year. But here you have said that you will message with our tags.

Posting directly in the Design Challenge is well understood.

Though our blogs are in the correct directory as we tagged it correctly and created them from the design challenge page, I usually get a confirmation by looking into the recent contents of the design challenge once. As below you can see this question has been tagged with 'Design for a Cause' and it appears in recent content whereas our blogs don't appear there.

I can also see a blog in the recent contents, so I assume there is no issue as such ours' is a blog type.

Can anyone let me know the tag to be used for the design challenge blogs? Is it 'Design for a Cause' tag?

If yes why ain't our blogs not featured in the recent content in the design challenge page? Which is how it usually happens when we include the correct tag.

Hi Dixon

As long as your blog is tagged "Design for a Cause" Design Challenge, I should automatically go in the correct directory on this site. When challengers create a blog, we are automatically tagged for the challenge, we have to change the tag if the blog isn't for the challenge.... I think!!!

Enocean Press Switch Circuit

Hi,

I want to build a simple sensing circuit, where the transmitter sends a signal to a reciever on the press of a piezo-electric switch and the reciever threin drives a 5VDC LED circuit.

Could anyone suggest the optimal part numbers for the enocean sensors?

Deepak,

There are so many ways to go. What you are proposing it a very simple communication, so unless you need to, don't complicate it. Zigbee is a very powerful mesh device with a high level of complexity and relatively high cost. I would consider looking at something mush simpler. There are some sub GHz band transceivers that are available for ~$1.00. One of these paired with a small microprocessor (also ~$1.00) would make a simple solution to the design that you mention. If you want to move to a slightly higher technology solution there are some Bluetooth transceivers available at ~$5.00. These two could be paired with a small microprocessor to build either sensor or receiver.

Taking the cost into account, would you advise that Zigbee GreenPro or Z wave would be priced lower?

I am looking at 2 sensors and 2 recievers with a simple MCU to drive the LEDs to be under $50 for a college project.

Your suggestions would be helpful.

Deepak,

The parts above could be used to do what you are referring to. You need the piezoelectric switch (with transmitter), a receiver and then your arduino to light your LEDs. This is not really a low cost solution, but if you can not tolerate a battery in your switch, this is about the only solution that you have. The switch is ~$33.00, and the receiver is ~$16.00. If you could tolerate the battery, or used a small solar cell to harvest energy to charge a supercap/battery, then you could use some of the very low cost ESP-01 like modules to broadcast your switch signal over WiFi (there are a lot of examples using these parts here on element14 blogs/projects).

Hi,

My requirement is to just power two 5V DC LED circuits.

Range is not a problem as a radius of 2 meters is sufficient.

The design I am looking at is enocean sensor (piezoelectric) push button to reciever connected to arduino powering 2 output 5VDC LED circuits.

Would you reccommend Enocean as a low cost solution?

There is a pretty cool development kit http://www.newark.com/enocean/edk-350/energy-harvest-868mhz-developer/dp/98W2496

This stuff is pretty cool. I have used a lot of enocean modules and developed a enocean to Zigbee bridge to use enocean switches in commercial lighting systems. These parts are not really cheap, but what things are?
