All 16 of the sponsored Challengers for the Design for a Cause Challenge will receive for FREE the kit detailed in the table below.
Our judges will choose 16 applicants to become sponsored challengers, and they will receive the kit free of charge. If you are not a sponsored challenger, you can still compete as a non-sponsored or independent challenger. See note below.*
- Microcontroller: SAMD21 Cortex-M0+ 32bit low power ARM MCU
- Clock speed: 48MHz
- Board Power Supply (USB/VIN): 5V
- Operating voltage: 3.3V
- Flash memory: 256KB
- SRAM: 32KB
- Digital I/O Pins: 8

*Once the sponsored Challengers receive their kit, they will then embark on their journey of designing an exciting and original project that uses the Arduino MKR1000 Dev BoardMKR1000 Dev Board. They will design a piece of assistive technology for individuals living with physical or mental impairments. (NOTE: Even if you aren't a sponsored Challenger, you can still participate in the Design Challenge as long as you integrate the Arduino MKR1000 Dev Board into your design.)
The deadline for project application submissions is 20th June 2018.
Arduino MKR1000 Dev Board (With Mounted Pin Headers) Arduino MKR1000 is a powerful board for makers seeking to add Wi-Fi connectivity to their projects even with minimal experience in networking. It is based on the Atmel ATSAMW25 SoC (System on Chip) that is part of the SmartConnect family of Atmel Wireless devices.
Arduino MKR1000 IoT Bundle (includes a MKR1000 Dev Board) The Arduino MKR1000 IoT Bundle is a maker kit that includes the MKR1000 board plus numerous electronic components, jumper wires, motors and a 400-point breadboard. The kit is based around the MKR1000—a powerful board that combines the functionality of the Zero and the Wi-Fi Shield—and enables Makers to add connectivity to their designs with minimal prior networking experience.
SD Card Shield for Arduino MKR, Daughter Board The Arduino MKR SD Proto Shield allows you to easily connect an SD card to your Arduino MKR board. It can be used to enhance the IoT features of your MKR1000 as well as storing data coming from the web or sensor reading from your board. It also features a small prototyping area to allow you to solder extra components for your project.
Arduino MKR1000 & UNO Shield Interface Adapter Board The MKR2UNO Adapter allows you to turn your Arduino UNO form factor based project into a MKR based one with minimal effort. It also allows you to upgrade your project with a powerful board with the integrated LiPo battery charger.
EKMC1601111EKMC1601111PIR Sensor The EKMC1601111EKMC1601111 from Panasonic is a standard detection type passive infrared motion sensor in a TO-5 package This sensor detects a change in infrared radiation which occurs when there is a movement by a person or object due to the change in the surrounding temperature
ADXL335Z Evaluation Board The ADXL335 is a small, thin, low power, complete 3-axis accelerometer with signal conditioned voltage outputs. The product measures acceleration with a minimum full-scale range of ±3 g. It can measure the static acceleration of gravity in tilt-sensing applications, as well as dynamic acceleration resulting from motion, shock, or vibration.
38KHz IR Sensor A miniaturized IR receiver modules for infrared remote control systems. A PIN diode and a preamplifier are assembled on a leadframe, the epoxy package contains an IR filter. The demodulated output signal can be directly connected to a microprocessor for decoding.
HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor for Arduino & Pi The HC-SR04 non-contact ultrasonic sensor is a range finder that uses sonar to measure distance to an object. |
