I finally got it working last night and am now running Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS on the SAMA5D4

Hi Rob,

SAMA5D4 is using Intel's Yocto. Professionals think highly of it, and I can guess why, but for diy people it might not (yet) be a perfect match. Eitherway the features of the pre-installed distro that comes with the board, it's Atmels decision. I do not know what atmel was thinking when designing SAMA5D4 and what market is it aiming at but I assume that PROs will build a custom OS anyway, so it's only the diy people that might consider using the default one. Therefore, I agree with you, default distro should not be "vanilla" flavour, but on the contrary it should be full of tools and packages that make one's life easier. (like rpi)

Anyway, please share the guide/steps that you used for building ubuntu.
