Yes. The gap for a flyback is the E-leg in the middle. Standard, both sides usually touch when you buy the halves. The discoloration is probably caused by a grinding process during production. To generate the correct width.

it's always weirdly satisfying to see destructive testing done, fun read!

I salvaged a transformer from a power supply, and asking around about how to take it apart, someone suggested to boil it in water for 10+ minutes. I have yet to try that, but it's good to keep in mind if you want to recycle a core [emoticon:c4563cd7d5574777a71c318021cbbcc8]

It seems that using these transformers as heaters is not a good idea. Enjoyable experiment and very pleasant to read as always.
