I now also understand why the Epishine enery harvesting evaluation kit that I have, does not want to charge the cap anymore. I always expected it'd be the active electronics.

Hi Gough,

Very interesting! I didn't know about the requirement to keep the capacitance within a range. I don't have that chemistry supercap, but I dug up this beast:

It was purchased for a project 8 years ago but this one was unused (it has not been charged for 8 years). It measured 0.214 V : ( Anyway, I've set it on a charge at a low-ish rate (100 mA), and physically protected myself from any bursting etc, and will see what happens. It will take ages at this rate of course. I'll also measure the ESR, in case it doesn't meet the spec any more.
