Some good points about the authentication. I'm really glad that the recent scans against insecure VPNs (Viss @ twitter) have brought this area to the map even more. There's some really scary stuff in there, even power / heat plants running automation without authentication on public Internet :S

I've been planning on doing a post about the reliability of home automation systems, I guess I could write a bit about the security side as well. I also have some great examples from my existing automation system about how one could use this kind of information to detect living patterns vvvvvery easily.
