I just received a message from Kickstarter.

It appears the RPISOC hasn't met funding, so won't be available to buy.

Don't break any more, as element14 might have the remaining ones that are out in the wild.....

I have been interested in the PSoC5LP since designing with the PSoC4 and the RPiSoC module seems like a great platform to get started with. I have also been looking for a suitable MCU to build a solar-powered solar-tracking solar power supply to power outdoor instrumentation. It might even have a high-tech solar sundial feature. This project requires several servo motors and several light sensors, which seem like a pretty good fit for the RPiSoC. I will probably expand it to include Bluetooth for remote monitoring plus a couple of weather sensors. The Forget-Me-Not theme link is a bit tenuous but it will remove the need to remember to replace or recharge batteries, and it could supply weather reminders.

This would be an excellent multi-function board for model railroad automation. With the advantage of the multitude of flexible ports, my project would make full use of the boards for detection of the trains, output to LED signals, throwing of turnouts, and communication back to the host computer using either the DCC protocol if possible, or a fallback to RS485 or the such. I can see many other possibilities for the board, depending on just how capable it is. Thanks for considering me for this. Hi, i propose to use the RPiSoC to control and catch the status of my home ventilation system. Integrate with OpenHAB and my humidity sensor, when i take my shower humidity sensor detect the humidity increase and automatically start the ventilation.

I would use the RPiSOC to build a biped robot that can carry around the sensor I'm building.

The plan is to implement an intepreter that can execute the code create by software like LynxMotion Sequencer. In this way I can control the servos that make the robot walk and turn

I've spent all day thinking about this and this is my response.

Thank you very very much for giving me the chance of getting this SOC add-on board to the Raspberry Pi. It is a very nice board indeed.

BUT.

1) I submitted a project that I felt happy being able to completely committing too.

2) As the kickstarters say themselves this add on board offers the "Kitchen Sink" where my submission doesn't need this this much of a configurable tool.

3) What I would use this board for (Real time operations) I had already planned to compensate for the lack of a RTOS the Raspberry Pi's kernel's offers using some off the shelf parts.

After watching both the Recorded Video and the Kickstarter Video, This looks like a really great piece of kit for the Pi and I would happily have it in my toolbox BUT... Using the prototype quickly in the brief I gave to Element14 It is a) Overkill for what I need b) would mean I would have to redesign a part of my plan.

SO, If you really want to give me a board I will of cause happily accept it, BUT you have done more than enough for me already. (Just yesterday I was using the scope you have given to me to figure out that I need to add a little bit of compensation to some voltage references) The fact that there are only 17 boards up for grabs and there are at least 20 of us taking part in this challenge, I am happy to just give up my place for this board. I'm sure one of the 5 without the budget/scope will find an a great use for this board.

BUT to answer your question. What would I use it for.

Well I would use it to replace the microcontroller I'm planning to use for the Real Time stuff I wish to add to my system. We could just pass commands to the board and let it do its thing and report back. It will cause a few aches changing my current plan to include this board but it could be done but the plan for my project can go without this board.

So if there is only a limited number of boards I would rather give up my claim to a board to someone who didn't get the scope/budget/pi then only to think about how to use it later on in the build.

This is the design challenge that keeps on giving :-)

I've always loved the concept of PSoC, having configurable digital and programmable elements, plus automatic code-generation providing an API to the peripherals.

The RPiSoC looks good - one of the limitations of the RPi is the lack of analog inputs. I like that the RPiSoC also supports Arduino. Unfortunately I think I might have to pass on this board. I'm already behind in my Forget-Me-Not development.
