Hi Jay,

A nice demonstration of the temperature sensors but I'm puzzled. Your soldering irons seem to already have accurate digital temperature monitoring.

Have you catered for the soldering irons falling out of the stand by accident?

My soldering iron has an inbuilt movement sensor, temperature sensors, automatic shutdown to save power and the tips and ultrarapid reheating.

It has three stages, active, standby and shutdown.

I haven't tried it but even with all that I don't think it can properly sense an accidental fallout and burning the floor or someone's lap.

Very nice.

I do like the measurement of Temperature v ADC ... it ensures you know what to expect.

I tried a similar setup for measuring light, but for some reason mine didn't work.

I might need to go back and recheck with your profile.

Possibly i missed somenthing but In case you only want to know if the iron is switched then until it cools you will get a false positive?

I don't know if this is valid but wouldn't it have been possible to interface the soldering station's temperature sensor directly? I mean it will have a thermocouple inside anyways and that way you would have a more accurate reading... I think.
