Hi Leslie,

Your idea for the umbrella reminds me of the very old style Beer signs in bars and resturants.

I also think they did something similar for Morton Salt signs with the girl walking with an umbrella as the salt continued to pour in the rain.

Yes I am that old.

They're running off of custom made Arduino clones. They were originally intended for something else, so they're made as two strings per controller, but you can have as many strings as the controller has pins for. All the programming is done by me (in Arduino "language".)

Go to about 2 minutes into this video to see how I implemented falling droplets on several strings. They appear at random intervals, random speed, and random brightness. There are some other patterns as well. Might give you some ideas.
