If your using insulated crocodile clips then I usually try to pull the insulation down over the clip as far as possible, if it's connecting to a wire then you can usually get it all the way down, or on a board then it can be pulled flush with the board to help try to stop accidental connection with something it shouldn't!

A few days ago someone told me that to try and fail is at least to learn. So take what you've learned and try again!

Every maker knows the heartbreak of Oops!

Uninsulated alligator clips are an accident waiting to happen. You only lost an LED, I once blew up a laser power supply. BOOM!

It happens. As you decided, its ok to fail as long as you learn from the mistake.
