Hi!

Nice idea about lightning detection.

In Europe is getting popular this website about lightning detection

They have real time ligthning maps. Data are coming from amateurs putting up their antennas on the roof and sending RF click data to internet togather with timing tag..

Nice project DAB.

It has some very useful features suited to a wide variety of people.

I would suggest using the Dallas DS18B20 temperature sensor since its one wire and doesn't need calibrating.

You can also set alarms in it (never tried it and why when you need a micro to talk to it anyway??)

They can be had for a few dollars.

DAB;

Out here in California a guy was killed by a lightning strike while swimming at Venice Beach. In fact, a few people were injured. The storm came out-of-nowhere.

Hi DAB,

This sounds awesome! I think something like this could even be useful for those in areas with less frequent lightning, so that one knows when to look out for exciting lightning strikes. If they are rare, they are just as or more interesting to watch :-)

Knowing how the weather is moving (e.g. if there were such devices in several locations spread out) would be interesting too.
