Have you identified the settings which the NXP board communicates at? What's the bit setting and baud rate, for example?

Have a look at SerialTools on the Mac App Store. It provides you with a few tweaking options. May be of help.

Challenge is the operative word with this project. The multidisciplinary requirements cover a wider scope than most people are experts at, so it demands a lot of talent or a lot of learning or both. The size of the motor forces the scale of the project to be physically large, which makes it expensive and unwieldy. For me the Kinetis products and software are all new, so another big learning curve. It ends up taking a lot of time to make a little tangible progress. However the more difficult the project, the bigger the satisfaction in completing it, so this project is going to be a very satisfying accomplishment to look back on.

Hei, Is any of you using Linux for developing the NXP? I'm having trouble with the UART part. I was not able to connect to the NXP via Terminal, through the screen command.

How about a Panasonic Grid-EYE IR sensor in each room ?

It should be able to indicate where the child is currently is located in a room unless they are able to crawl under something. Even then you could use the last known detected position to work out where they hid.

Hi! My name is Eric. I am moderately visually impaired and I have a question. I have a friend who is completely blind and has a child who is just starting to run around and tries to get into trouble (Of course she doesn't see it as trouble, she's just having fun)! Does anyone have any ideas on what could help her out? I'm thinking of some type of system that would notify her if the child is going somewhere in the house she shouldn't be without supervision. But also will let her find her if she goes somewhere to hide, or just falls asleep on the floor so she doesn't trip over her. Maybe even tell her the child's location in the house. Suggestions on existing products, or parts that could be used to make the product are welcome. This will be an indoor application, so GPS is probably out. Also, would like something relatively inexpensive. Thanks for your time, and for any suggestions. Eric..

You could try Bluetooth beacons. For example, installing a beacon in a place where the child should not be for starters. You can adjust the transmit power to cover a certain radius (as in area of the room/house etc) and every time the child is within the beacon area it triggers an event like a general alarm that the child would recognize as an area which is off limits for her while helping the mother know where in the house she is. Different areas could have different variations of the alarm to enable the mother to know her precise location.

Of course the child would need to have a beacon like bracelet or something similar on her all the time. But when the wearable does not make any sound or show any sort of display, it is unlikely the child will suspect it, find it to be a nuisance and take it off.

Thanks for the reply. Sound is definately one of the solutions I'm considering. My only concerns would be that the child will hear the device and think it's a toy and take it off. Also, I don't know if I could use the sound to accurately find the child in a room if she's asleep. The big thing is the mother is worried about is finding the child without getting on hands and knees and exploring the room. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post. Thank you.
