Smart Guitar Hero Controller

I want to start a project changing my guitar hero controller into a stand alone music device. The goal is to have it play real sounds through a built in speaker or headphone jack, based on inputs from the 5 colored buttons and strum. It will of course have a limited number of sounds, but enough for novelty!

What is the best micro-controller for this project? Since I have to ask, I'm obviously not quite at the level of embedding my own yet, so perhaps a dev board with an SD card slot for the sounds? Perhaps something like the Teensy 3.5?

Also, is there anyone interested in collaborating in someway?

Any general suggestions on the project are welcome! Thanks!

Experimental Arduino Musical Instrument

I thought our MusicTech Challengers might find this inspirational.

It's an interactive art exhibition and experimental musical instrument called Exp.Inst.Rain, by Guatemalan artist Balam Soto. In his own words:

"Exp.Inst.Rain incorporates projection and sound generated by a wireless box made of wood, plexiglas, Arduino, electronic components and custom touch sensors. By touching the box at various points, participants create different sounds; these sounds then generate changes in the projection.

Globally, touch devices are increasingly common; people understand how to use them. “Exp.Inst.Rain” analyses this new technology and makes use of this new common understanding to fuse sound and visuals into real-time interactivity.

"This artworks it’s power by Arduino and wireless vibes , using Capacitive Touch Sensor and home made aluminium electrode to pick up touch. Custom software acts as a Bridge between the Exp.inst.X and Midi software."

'Missing' blogpost

Hey,

My last blogpost that I posted yesterday (entitled 'Vintage Toy Synthesiser - The End Result') is now saying that it is unpublished, and when I go to edit it to try and republish it only 1 paragraph of the post appears in the text editor.

Can anyone confirm that it appears missing to them?

What's been your major hurdles, hangups or problems?

Everyone gets to that point where they feel they've hit a brick wall, there's something they perhaps just don't know, perhaps the hardware hasn't arrived, they've ran out of solder or there's something else going amiss.

For me in my projects lately I need access to a 3D Printer, but the one at my local hackspace isn't working!

So what's stopped you from progressing with your musictech project? Either now or previously?

Puredata~ on BeagleBone Black

Hey guys, for those of us planning to use Pd~ for the Music Tech Challenge, I thought I'd start a thread where we can share tips and ask questions etc. so that it's all in one central location.

My progress so far:

Flashed Ubuntu to the eMMC of my BeagleBone
Configured it to work properly with my Motorola Atrix Lapdock (pictured above) so that I don't have to SSH in or connect to a monitor, mouse & keyboard all the time
Configured wireless networking via a tiny Edimax WiFi dongle (which was a bit of a headache)
Installed the LXDE desktop
Installed Puredata

Next step is to get Jack/ALSA working with one of my USB soundcards to test some stuff out. I'll add some links to resources that I found useful for some of these processes to this thread soon.

So, who else is going to come sit at the Pd~ table at lunch time? (Also known as the "cool kids" table)

There were many fantastic applications for this challenge. We can only offer the full kit free to 15 official contestants, however, you can still participate in the challenge!

All you need to do is follow the challenges Terms and Conditions too and you can go head to head with our awarded challengers to also be in with a chance to win these amazing prizes!

The basic requirement are (but not limited to) :

• Mandatory use of the BeagleBone Black

• Documentation of the project on the element14 Community. It is recommended that you produce these weekly, but not required provided the number of quality blogs exceeds 15. You can ask us anything at any time if you have any questions on how and what to post.

• The design of this project must comply with the OSHW definition of “Open Source Hardware”

• Final projects must be posted by 11:59 PM GMT on March 14, 2016

Help us follow along with your project by including the tag “musictech” in your blogs, videos and documents. Our members love video , so be creative and have some fun sharing your tech imaginatively. Make sure you post your blogs in www.element14.com/musictech

If someone is looking for a good way to do a drum type input to their project I can also recommend this circuit I found earlier in the year. It works nicely with some LM393 comparators.
