I see we have a few things in common, so also looking forward to learn from each others progress.

I see you'll be using RF-433Mhz switches. I used those before and at some point exchanged them for Z-Wave switches, the lack of a return signal (or being able to ask for the status) made 433Mhz a lot less reliable. They are a lot more affordable though... So, if you didn't order these already, I would advice you to look into some alternatives.

Good luck and enjoy!

RE: PiIoT - DomPi: Application

Looking forward to seeing how this works through each phase. I love the break downs and priorities with future expansion potential. Great way to plan the minimum of what you want to accomplish within the timeline and still allow for future vision and what your end goal is!

An idea for you to think of is factor an alarm with your temperature sensor that will alert you when you are abroad. I live in Colorado and one Christmas Holiday we traveled away from home and came back to find that the furnace had stopped working. Quick fix, flame sensor was not reading and just needed cleaning. But since you mention being in cold environments knowing of a failure for heat might save you some burst pipes or similar damage. At least it will get you ready to break out the space heaters when you get home. :-)
