I have connected a ov5647 v 1.3 camera to a Pi 3 B+. Using GraspIO, I try to take a snapshot. The camera turns on but it won’t turn off. Any ideas?

Some of the contestants (including myself) used OpenHAB in their Pi IoT project. The stock UI is not bad, but I saw this passing by on twitter and thought it would look cool for anyone wanting to make an actual dashboard with OpenHAB:

10 Days Left of the Pi IoT Challenge! News and Notes

Hello Challengers!

We are coming into the final stretch of the Pi IoT Design Challenge! It's hard to believe that there are just ten days left before the final submission date. Please make sure to have your final projects submitted by 11:59 PM GMT on 29 August 2016 to be considered for the phenomenal prizes.

There has been some reports that the replacement SenseHats and other missing parts were not received by our challengers. There was an unforeseen and unknown (until this week) problem with those products being delivered. They have arrived back to me today, and I will work on getting these shipped to you ASAP. They must clear our compliance department before receipt. Despite this delay, we have made the decision to stick to the original close date. We will ship out the replacement SenseHats and missing parts to those who have shown progress on their project over the last few months. Thankfully this is the majority of our Challengers.

Great job keeping up with the challenge, and helping each other along the way. We are very pleased with the efforts thus far, and look forward to a spirited dash to the finish line!

[Pi IoT] Raspberry Pi 3: New Boot Modes

It's late in the challenge, but even then, I think it's interesting and useful information to share with you

The two posts below explain alternative boot modes for the Raspberry Pi 3: from mass storage device and from network!

I think the network boot looks particularly interesting! Maintaining a single repository containing all your files and tools, ready to be deployed on any Pi would greatly simplify maintenance and control.

Perhaps not for this challenge anymore, but I will certainly be trying this in the future

[Pi IoT] Sense HAT: New Release Python Library

Just in case you were planning to start playing with your Sense HAT, it appears a new version of the Python library was released.

The main change of note is new the joystick functionality. Previously you would've had to use libraries like pygame and evedev to capture input events, now the Sense HAT library supports the joystick directly with no other dependencies.

The library will be part of the next Raspbian release, but can already be installed manually.

Sense Hat Environmental Sensors

Hi,

I received my package today and was testing Sense Hat. I wrote a small script to log the values to screen.

[Pi IoT] Prota: Home Automation OS for Raspberry Pi

Hi! Saw this passing by in my social media feeds today and thought it was relevant for this challenge, especially as we are only getting started

It looks like an OS focusing on home automation. They sell the "Prota S" base station, but the "Prota Agatha" OS is also available for Raspberry Pi, for free. There is also a range of actuators called "Microbots", allowing the control of regular, non-IoT devices.

Has anyone heard of this OS before or perhaps even tried it?
