Great update on your project. Nice that you are making such great progress. When defining an interface between computers there is no right or wrong way. The GPIO looks like it will work fine. In the future, if you have more recognizable subjects, you could easily convert your 'one pin per person' to a 8-bit number and be able to identify up to 256 individuals.

Nice project. This would have been a perfect application for the Omron Vision Sensor that I roadtested last year. The one thing that it was very good at was person recognition using a small set of "registered" images. Maybe one day I'll try something similar using the Omron. I already have an RPi that I stream ipcamera video to, so maybe a good variant would be to stream a different video based on the person recognized.

You seem to be making good progress and I look forward to seeing the more artistic parts of your project in action.

I am a great believer in 'if it works, why not use it' so if communication using GPIO works then carry on using it. It does cut out all the communication protocol overheads that other techniques have.
