That's intriguing, I can see people watching it for quite a while, to try to discover the pattern : )

The framed canvas is a neat idea.. I have a family member who is an artist, I'll have to suggest to them that they can illuminate their work with such techniques from inside..

Anyway, IMHO, using shift registers is more elegant than a lot of outputs.

I really like this first canvas. It is just the type of art I like. Simple and sparse, but with interest. A pity it needs a lead to the power supply. I look forward to seeing the remaining 8 slices.

PS I like your yellow robot. I have two very similar ones. I did have a whole bunch of these but gave most of them away as presents.

Do you have to level shift signals going from the Pi to the shifters (sic)? TPIC6B595 seems to handle 3V3 logic:

I totally respect your determination and your personal point of view, as well as your design idea that sounds promising and interesting. But - as you don't agree with the Challenge T&C - and you also say that you are not eligible as a participant just a question: why you define yourself as an independent participant to the Challenge as you don't agree and - consequently - you don't recognize the challenge nor the challengers? I ask this because, as part of the T&C the challenge accepts also non-selected participants, but despite these users has not been selected as sponsored, they have accepted the rules as well.
