James, You expressed doubt whether you will be able to transmit WiFi from inside a Steel frame. First check if it is steel or not by sticking a fridge magnet. Secondly, like in cellphones, stick the antenna strip outside where heat is not an issue.

I like the safety features to warn of potential fire hazards. On a less practical note, have you considered an infrared camera?

Interesting idea.

I have to say, I paid a lot less for my range hood, including the electrical wiring, but it has been about 15 years since I upgraded mine.

Are you going to monitor the temperature and have a fire detection capability?

Have you considered implementing an automatic CO2 fire extinguisher?
