Jonathan,

Good start. Smokers and BBQ are my go to cooking devices. I agree that the available options for temperature monitoring of outdoor devices are either too limited or way to expensive. I have had loose plans (big ideas) for build my own temperature monitoring and controlling systems for some time, but other things/projects seem to get in the way. Hopefully following your progress through this competition will inspire me to quit dreaming and start building.
