Ambitious project - good luck with it.

Have you looked at automatic fire systems used in cars and boats? They have a variety of ways to be triggered from air operated valves to temperature operated bulbs or tubes. May be you could adapt the trigger mechanism to suit your needs?

Example temperature bulb operated extinguisher.
