Hi Stas, sorry for the situation. It makes one wonder if this is simply a QC issue or a deliberate fraud with counterfeit parts. In the US, we are experiencing severe levels of counterfeits from industry to military, even from previously reputable buyers. This too may have undermined the efforts of the producer of your kit as well.

I have a project that sees a potential 36+ million units in sales (x $375 each wholesale), and quite frankly the counterfeit issue is horrifying. From the circuit board to the four processors, to the RAM, WiFi IO, IMU, and numerous other components of which any could cause failure of the entire system.

QC of up to 36M units is expensive, but failure of the product would be devastating. I have to figure how to test each component before committing them to the board, or testing the first batch of boards with each new group of components, which is probably the least expensive route. Global sourcing is a benefit in one hand, and a menace in the other.

Have you contacted the product manufacturer? It would seem that they would be significantly concerned. If they aren't then it was probably a scam.

P.S. Have you considered including load cells in the ball and heel to evaluate the runner's stride quality? Include a data logger so they can download and process.

Hey Anastasios,

A 'runners shoe' was how a local company spun off the university: they're Xsens, a company now running very well selling inertial measurement systems.

You might also want to look at the MPU9150 or MPU9250, as those also integrate the magnetometer. Otherwise the Bosch BMI055 or BMX055 might be nice and small!

Good start to play catchup.

I wasn't sure where you were going at first, but know I can see what you are going to accomplish. Cool.

Instrumenting the shoe makes very good sense for the serious runners around.

A lot of people ;have no idea about the amount of physical stress your feet go through when just jogging.

Your design would enable them to assess their running style and possibly make changes in stride, gait, and impact when running.

I also like your decision to try a come from nowhere approach to the contest.

Let's see what you get done before the end.
