That solution will help, but getting better insulation and using reflective coatings on buildings would help more.

The best way to survive heat is to move underground.

Take a look at how the people of Alice Springs, Australia, deals with the heat.

It is clean, efficient and takes nothing more than a shovel to accomplish.

Unfortunately I think that even the normally cold and wet UK has already started to cross that line.

With increasing amounts of thermal insulation being added to save on winter heating bills, during the summer months it is also tending to trap more of that daytime heat and hold it late into the night. Fitting and automating shutters could perhaps help reduce the heat build-up during the daytime with venting during the evening.

About 20 years ago I tried something similar using low-cost 4" duct fans (like you get for a shower cubical) and fitting them into existing wall vents to try and push/pull the air through to get it circulating more but without too much noise.

I didn't have quite the same access to low cost microcontroller modules back then, so will be interesting to see how you get on.

If you can control air vents and blinds whilst monitoring multiple temperature sensors throughout the building you may be able to do more. e.g. during the day close the blinds on the sunny side, and open vents on the shaded sided while the air is still cooler outside.
