Hi,

Here what I can recollect. For the CC3200 and CC3100 the later firmwares usually will require you to format the device since not all the space available to the user. I have had lots of problems with the CC3200 where I updated the firmware without formatting the eeprom with the CC3200 however I think formatting simply implies carpet bombing all the sectors and rebuilding the boot sector as well.

I will give the process a try with the CC3100 and revert but should not be an issue.

I checked if this works with a CC3200 LaunchPad as UART bridge: yes

Write down the position of the jumpers J6, J7 and J15.

Put Jumper J15 in position 2 to allow UniFlash functionality

Remove Jumpers J6 and J7

Connect the top pin of J6 (RX) to BoosterPack J1.4 (TX)

Connect the top pin of j7 (TX) to BoosterPack J1.3 (RX)

GND to GND, 3V3 to 3V3, connect both USB cables.

Don't forget to push SW2 (Reset) of the CC3100 briefly during connection)

Afterwards, put the jumpers back to their original position.

note to self: at least for one of the SDK examples for this device, "CC31xx SSL Demo Application", it is necessary to have access to the Flash.

Quote from the example's documentation:

Prerequisite:
[...]
• Download the required certificate file at /cert/google.der on sFLASH using CCS UniFlash [1] utility. For detailed instructions refer to Uniflash user guide.

I may try this. A good excuse to see if the process in this blog is just a game or if it has practical value...
