Interesting, I will enjoy seeing this project as it progresses. I had thought a little on something that would monitor physical levels such as temp, heart rate, etc... like you are doing but I wasn't sure how it could best be implemented on a user who may not be "reliable" for keeping sensors attached. Items like the fingertip sensor would be impossible to keep on my children. :-)

I like the idea of switching the lights on in the room based on a beacon rather than motion sensing. I have a motion sensor in one of my labs that keeps turning off the lights on me at work if I'm sitting at a desk too long.
