Think I would have put female headers on the Arduino to avoid spray on the pins...&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=2956&amp;AppID=150&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item><item><title>RE: Safe and Sound : Winter/Cold Weather Survival Suit Blog#9</title><link>https://community.element14.com/challenges-projects/design-challenges/texas-instruments-safe-sound-wearables-design-challenge/b/blog/posts/safe-and-sound-winter-cold-weather-survival-suit-blog-9</link><pubDate>Sat, 29 Apr 2017 17:54:52 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:384f77c5-bc72-436c-8fa4-0116c02dbcf0</guid><dc:creator>mcb1</dc:creator><slash:comments>1</slash:comments><description>&lt;p&gt;Water and electronics are an interesting mix.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;From my observations over the years, it is not immersion in clean water that causes a problem.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;High frequency circuits my have some changes due to the capacitance change.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Moisture that is trapped under or around components, usually as a result of dust build-up causes the greatest issues.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#39;ve also seen moisture affecting the flux that was not cleaned off a commercial product cause issues, but once cleaned worked fine.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It&amp;#39;s not until the drying out and corrosion phase that the issues come forth, and I suspect electrolysis has something to do with some aspects.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#39;ve also seen it attack vias on the pcb corroded such that they were no longer a link between the two layers.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I suspect it was a combination of the dissimilar metals used during the process (older pcb) that caused it.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Some time ago we were repairing Japanese manufactured automotive products and they seem to have been dipped in a coating.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It was an absolute pain when it came to fixing it, but it certainly kept moisture out.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Mark&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=2956&amp;AppID=150&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
