My proposal is one that I have been wanting to create for a couple of years now.
A little background:
I work in the woodworking industry where we use CNC machines to ...

RE: Twist, Turn and Move Design Challenge - Unlimited CNC Robot - Blog #1 Proposal and Design Concept

Very interesting.

You could also do a 3D printer that could lay down a stretch of material to simulate a mountain range, or maybe build a simulated meteor crater.

Lots of possibilities with moving tools.

Robot cities of the future anyone?

RE: Twist, Turn and Move Design Challenge - Unlimited CNC Robot - Blog #1 Proposal and Design Concept

So instead of accidentally sawing through the dining room table, you can now accidently cut through the living room floor [emoticon:c4563cd7d5574777a71c318021cbbcc8]

I guess the limits might be to do with the length of vacuum hoses if you want to keep the lines clear of sawdust, unless you just use a local blower and clear up afterwards ?
Visions of MO from WALL-E "...foreign contaminant..."

I once saw a video of someone testing a R/C scale model of a Pistenbully snow groomer and I was pretty impressed by its performance. The creator was lying flat on a carpeted floor and the caterpillar tracked base he had made was shoving him across the room with relative ease.

An indoor positioning system might be an interesting future upgrade - no need to mark out the lines or worry about sawdust. I've not seen many projects using them yet though.

RE: Twist, Turn and Move Design Challenge - Unlimited CNC Robot - Blog #1 Proposal and Design Concept

Very cool and ambitious ! Awesome idea using tank treads for a solid mobile base.
