I will explore the VHS player tonight. What about the idea just manage to use the buttons, but only the mechanical part of them and then hook up them to the new board. Also I plan to use the display from the kit that is provided. It will be easier for me to drive it, otherwise the player display has separate driver maybe. That way you could conserve the original mains power in and power supply circuitry as well as the on and off switch.
