Just be aware that the different plants absorb water at different rates.
Some plants might drain the sponge much faster than others.

In theory if you stacked the washer correctly, you could vary the rate around the cycle, ie speed it up or slow it down.

Depending where these particular plants are, they could either drain more or absorb more moisture.

I presume plants that don't like their feet wet could have a half size sponge.

Nice update.

I like the little cups for growing the plants and keeping them suspended.

Have you done any tests to see how long it takes the plant roots to dry out after they have been immersed?
