I'm using a Sparkfun level converter, Looks like its circuit is the same as the Adafruit, featuring the BSS138 FETs.

I like the header idea.

The relay board has the option of removing the jumper and adding 1.8v.

You would need to bypass the onboard LED and reduce the resistor, but it might work.

It wouldn't give you the LED for the front panel, so your transistor interface is a good compromise.

BE AWARE

While the relays are rated at 10A, often the pcb is NOT.

You may wish to solder a heavy solid wire to reinforce the current carrying capabilities of the track.

Hopefully your unit has the slot around the common terminal of the contacts as this one does.

For this project, everything is inside the unit, but the normal mains safety advice applies to ensure that you don't end up with a mains voltage where it shouldn't be.

Make sure the ground is tied to chassis to ensure you can't get a shock, and be very careful when the lid is open.

The header on the bottom of the mini-board is a brilliant idea!
