They did print ok at one point this afternoon. The issues is that there is a LOT of plastic behind the heads where the mechanism is to switch the nozzles. This stops the mechanism moving and hence selecting a nozzle, hence the message.

Here's some stock photos of a variations of this head, it's that space between the stepper and the nozzles that is full of plastic.

[View:/resized-image/__size/284x172/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-bbd488ff-a631-4b66-a4d0-e2a5fa60002b/0842.contentimage_5F00_184501.jpg:284:172][View:/resized-image/__size/272x148/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-bbd488ff-a631-4b66-a4d0-e2a5fa60002b/3175.contentimage_5F00_184502.jpg:272:148]

I don't believe a seal was blown as it was printing ABS quite happily for a couple of hours after it was printing the PET. There was also no black ABS in the plastic I was removing. The problem must have started when it cooled down after that session and the PET set hard. The print head is 2.5 years old so I'd suspect beyond any warrantee.

The smoke and flickering light before the temperature sensor stopped working were a really bad sign. I'm not saying that it's a complete right-off but it's not going to be running this week. No need an entire printing head...

If you can unlock at least one, just check the thickness and you can ket sets of 5 new one for very few dollars from Amazon (I always have some in my boxes). A key M3 if I am not wrong should be used to unlock. When the nozzle are locked due the fused filament (out of place) I suggest to use the hot air of the soldering unit set at the proper temperature (about 120 C for PLA and 210 C for ABS). As you see that the plastic start fusing, stay ready with the key or a clamp to unlock the nozzles. then at least you have a better vision of what's inside. It is rare that the head is totally broken.

Enrico
