While not a Qi solution, you could also use 9V track to recharge using metal wheels, axels, and use a brush to pull power for charging. Incorporate a voltage detection and switching circuit to draw additional power from the battery when changing between DCC zones and going up slopes/around corners to create a more consistant voltage output and your train won't slow, nor will the lights dim when the motor is put under heavy load.

I tried to load your .brd file in Eagle Pro 5.8 and it says invalid data. Downloaded again and still invalid. .SCH file, too.

Your forum password strength requirement is a bit over the top. I'll never remember it.

Otherwise, very interesting project. Cant wait to see the circuit.

I agree, the decision would be tough as you all did a lot of interesting work. I enjoyed seeing each of the approaches and finished products.

Could it be possible to make a way to charge a phone this way by making a very small version of this to generate enough power to charge a phone batery by just laying it on a special disk that can be portable(or mounted to your desktop) cause that would be really cool. A very impressive "mood" lighting option.

In my younger days, I used to work with lasers and I was always amazed at how a mere 5W laser could light up a whole room. I could work around the lab and make minor adjustments using only the laser to guide my vision.

Just a thought about how little light we really need.

A very good report. I am glad that you took some time to assess and verify the issues.
