The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has created the industry’s first interoperable standard (Qi) that allows any compliant transmitter to power compliant receivers of varying power requirements from various vendors. Advances in technology enable portable equipment to become smarter with every generation of products. The increasing user friendliness and features of these devices puts a demand on the power requirements. As a result, consumers find themselves charging their battery-powered applications more often and are looking for more convenient and efficient ways to recharge their devices. Wireless power technology provides a solution by allowing a portable device to charge from a transmitter pad without the need for any electrical connections. Today, many forms of wireless power technology are in development, but the most successful implementations for commercial applications are based on inductive-based power transfer, for example, the electric toothbrush.
