The Nordic chips (nRF24L01+) are very easy to interface, both Arduino and mbed have libraries to easily start prototyping with those. I'd keep the internet connected side on the primary side, otherwise it'll take quite a lot of hardware and time to complete the data transfer. You might also look at the CC3000 chipset by TI if you do wish to keep all Ethernet stuff on the epaper side.

By the way, I'm curious how you find the startup time of the Qi devices. For a badge, I'd think that the initial communication phase takes up quite some time (<1s, but still, not very responsive). For charging, that's OK, but for scanning a badge, it might depend on what you want to do with it.

RE: Smart ID Card

Kevin

As you said a very similar concept....

I suggest you look at the Nordic range of Tx/Rx for transfer.

I initially thought of Bluetooth but I haven't zero'ed in yet.

The eBadger is great, and makes a good starting point. They have a couple of options of power, but I'm not sure they include any liPo charging control.

You may want to look at using a DigiX which has in-built Wifi capability.

http://digistump.com/

Mark
