I would like to quote my audition tape here: Audition Tape for #badass Women Makers and Engineers Contest

After graduating and taking up a job, It has been a long time since I did an electronics-based project. So upon knowing about this awesome contest, I immediately made up my mind to get back into the world of electronics enthusiasts. We did a project based on Arduino Nano during our graduation period. It was a simple gesture controlled robot that will move a robot platform based on the hand and head gesture inputs from the user. The whole idea was to implement it wirelessly so that it can be controlled without the hassle of disturbing and messy wires. Even though we completed the basic project requirements, due to time and resource constraints, we were not able to succeed in realizing the wireless transmission part which we all looked forward to. This is still lurking in my mind which gave me the motivation to redesign the whole project from scratch and complete the whole project wirelessly without complex circuitry or hassle. This is developed as a simple lifehack which anyone with a basic understanding of hardware and software interfacing would be able to achieve. This lifehack and its upgrades can be implemented for a lot of applications such as industrial machine manipulation, teleoperated robots, bomb disposal units, precision robotics, etc. This project is just the tip of an iceberg to open a world with a lot of possibilities.

Introduction & Brief Overview:

The project is titled "A simple Gesture Controlled Robot" and it uses readily available day to day hobby utilities such as an RC toy car, a smartphone, a Raspberry Pi Zero, a MotorHAT, and a battery power source.

Let me give a simple graphic to understand the basic layout of the whole system.

The main parts of this system are the Robot and the Smartphone. He's a little crazy - his high voltage ejector bed project is very funny.

Tell us about your project:

It's a burpee counter. It uses an ultrasonic sensor to measure the distance of your feet when they kick back into a high plank. I had the idea because I've been exercising a lot at home with my sister and burpees often feature in the workouts! but she's complained about getting more out of breath by having to call them out to keep count... i thought this could help!

It's a pretty simple concept but seems to work reliably which is good!

Links or files you'd like to provide that support your project:

Yes - attached you'll find the schematic for my circuit and the python code!

Your Project video:

www.youtube.com/watch

This project uses an Arduino uno, rtc, ir remote, dc motor, buzzer and of course a catapult made from household materials to make your mornings a little more interesting. This is my first time documenting a larger project, so hopefully, it makes sense and you learn about things besides my hatred of buzzers and desire to somehow make a servo work on the catapult.

Parts list

For circuit

Arduino uno

6 aa batteries

Battery pack with jack

2 npn transistors

Diode

3 220 resistors

potentiometer

Passive buzzer

Dc motor

Ir receiver and remote

Ds3231 rtc

16x2 MQTT messages are processed through Node-Red which publishes the message to subscribers.

For this project the Pi itself subscribes and changes the screen colour to show the current status of the user, busy (Red) or not busy (Green). The Button also subscribes to this and displays the status to the user for confirmation of current state on the NeoPixel.

Links or files that support your project:

https://github.com/hifromkatie/Busy-button

Your Project video:

players.brightcove.net/.../index.html

So I hired one for a weekend, packet sniffed the USB protocol, and made my Teensy spoof the original device so that the official software would talk to it.

In the video I've tried to explain a bit about how USB works, as well as show the complete process I went through to clone the device. Hopefully this is something a little different, but still of interest to the Element14 core audience!

Links or files that support your project?

Will provide code on request. I've got some stuff on GitHub at the moment but it needs tidying up before I'm happy to publicise it!

Your Project video:

www.youtube.com/watch
