For the rework portion of the build, wouldn't it have been easier to gloop some paste flux over the chip leads, then hit all the pins with the iron?

Granted, you'd have to go back with some Isopropyl Alcohol, so it'd take the same amount of time in the end, but there'd be less overall heating on the board.

I have seen a lot of video tutorials on DIY surface mount, but this is the best I've seen. So clear. I was happy to learn about that source of solder paste with a needle injector.

I presume your toaster oven must have both top and bottom heating elements (bake and broil). Some only have bottom elements.

The text mentioned frying pan soldering, but this might involve magnetism (magnetic inductance coils) that could destroy some components.
