Hi Igor,

For $800 you can get a far better cam than the logitech one. There is probably not much you can reuse from the existing one, but if you google 'pi security camera' (or add element14 to the search term to find this Raspberry Pi Smart Surveillance Monitoring System ) you'll find loads of projects using the Pi with its associated camera which plugs into a dedicated connector on the Pi (i.e. it is not USB interfaced, although there is nothing stopping you from finding a USB camera and plugging that in to the Pi if that is the route you prefer).

Bear in mind that it wasn't designed for acting like a security camera so it won't have the specialist features like motorised IR cut filters or even a lens mount etc. However you will have the advantage of extreme software flexibility since you can do a lot with Linux.

There is a project (part 1 only currently) here that uses power over the LAN cable HAL-CAM 9001 – Building a New Security Camera but its not standards-based PoE although that will come later.
