I'm looking into sketch animation , graphics and 3d animation myself, it's not such a complex procedure to integrate into video as before, but I believe adds tonnes of value and distills principles, theories and execution clearly, procedurally and visually. Graphics in general can also provide a key pillars for scenes and comprehensive chapters of advanced subjects, I think there is equally as much work in modern video editing/cuts as in graphic design for video.

RE: Regrouping after HLH

Thanks for sharing! It was interesting to read your perspective on the contest.

I'm not enthusiastic about the image and ethics of hacking.

Making unauthorized copies of copyrighted software is simple theft; I don't even consider that hacking. Regardless, I think hacking can be done both legally and morally. As a software engineer myself, it would be hypocritical of me to promote software piracy. That's why the game I'm playing at the end of my project video is a free and original homebrew demo for the NES.

If you get the chance, take a look at the book "Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution" by Steven Levy. It's a great story about the original hackers going back to the 1950s and their sense of values.

RE: Regrouping after HLH

Hi Doug,

I had hoped you would have been selected, despite your presentation being different, it wasn't negative at all. You've got a relaxed way of explaining things, and it's always clear. Take a look at this sometime, when I first saw it, it made me realise that if you do something well, it's ok to have different presentation skills.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCgCSMq5Xpo

They are the two most unlikely people to present a show, and their budget was likely less than $500 : ) yet they made fascinating content that can still be watched today.

Besides, engineers trust other engineers, they will see through marketing for marketing's sake, and gloss and presentation. The presentation while important, is always second to the deep content. And your skill-set is wide. Anyway, I believe you've got immense talent and know-how to inspire people of all ages into engineering - and these are skills you can use whenever you wish, perhaps the fit that you feel is right for you will come along sometime.

RE: Regrouping after HLH

Doug,

I thought that you did a great job! Not everybody can be great at everything they try. I presume you are going down the back-light route eventually? I was testing a basic light tracker and accidentally left the leds under the ps1 controller pcb, I don't think I've seen it purposely done before as in a specific pattern backlit in the traces themselves, like text or specific shapes etc.. the leds create very crisp little projection so you could just have shapes cutout. Also was trying to use translucent HDPE/milk cartons etc.. in various ways, like trying to create a up-cycled AR Headset version..maybe for type III! The back lighting and leds have great potential for a whole transparent/translucent style of modding! You could call it 'glass shrimp mods' or something that would give it a kick-start.. lol'

[View:/resized-image/__size/1200x899/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-0e2e252a-41de-4c4d-b971-6dfbe6a6ab46/contentimage_5F00_186956.jpg:1200:899]

It amazing what you can learn in a short space of time alright , same here, learned a tonne of new stuff, and the competition pressure really helps to push your ideas further!

RE: SN35 Mini Update #04 – Not the end yet! – Hack Like Heck

That is such a shame, it was looking like it was shaping to be awesome!

I that clear PLA or Nylon you have printed in?

I am looking forward to seeing it complete, sorry you missed out on the video edit!
