    Excellent project DJ

but a few improvements (and this draws on my knowledge from my day job as a security systems installer)

instead of using the DC plug pack to power the security camera a better option…

what program opens .step files?  Why not just post .stl so the regular 3d printer folks can just open it in Cura or a simple slicer?

    Hi Glenn,

I included the .STEP file for this project, so you'll have complete access to the 3d file and be able to modify it. The camera is designed to fit on a 220x220mm bed, so most printers should be good.

    Hi Tom

The 3d files are include in the resources. .STEP allows you to modify the parts without losing any details.

There's definitely room to expand and grow the project. Thanks for the suggestions Paul!

    Very good project.

I have been eyeing the new RPi cameras and you have convinced me to get one.

    Excellent project DJ

but a few improvements (and this draws on my knowledge from my day job as a security systems installer)

instead of using the DC plug pack to power the security camera a better option would have been to use the PoE hat and PoE Ethernet switch to power it, plus it would eliminate the need to configure the wireless just run dhcp and looking for the device on your network
With the lens you probably did not notice it, once focused you can lock the position in place with the adjustment Handles/lugs they should twist locking it in place, and to give a bit more control if you sourced an auto iris security lens, you would need to use two pins configured as PWM to control the iris opening which is normally connected to a light sensor, closing it down for bright light, and opening it up in low light conditions.  I think I have a python script on how to control an auto iris lens somewhere. (And yes I have been playing with a lens on a Pi project just can’t get the software to work)

But otherwise an excellent security camera project.
