Electronics Engineer Reviews KORG NTS-2 Oscilloscope Kit - Workbench Wednesdays 75

Can the NTS-2 Oscilloscope from KORG be used as a general-purpose oscilloscope? KORG is better known for music synthesizers. But the NTS-2 kit is an oscilloscope you build yourself. So, James makes the kit, evaluates it, and uses a Commodore 64 to demonstrate how it works. In this video, see what he likes (and dislikes) about the NTS-2.

The "pulse" mode is likely generating a signal intended sync drum machines or other sequencers. There's been lots of standards for that over the years (of course!), but lots of recent hardware including…

Interesting review, not sure why I missed this originally, as I am sort of a fan of KORG devices and seriously thought about buying this kit.  I can understand your frustrations with this device from the standpoint of an engineer, having knowledge of full function oscilloscopes.  I can see how this was intended as a visualization tool for musically inclined individuals, as a full function oscilloscope might be intimidating for non-engineer types.  I mean with the spectrum analyzer, I can see how seeing that there are harmonics (and possibly the proportions of the harmonics), is more interesting, that being able to identify particular harmonic peak.

I am an engineer that is full frustrated with my lack of musical talents, but highly interested in electronic music.  I built or purchased several different synthesizers, only to struggle to make them sound like anything but noise.  I have a few different KORG products and continue to look for other additional items.

It looks like audio visualisation tools in hardware are becoming a bit of an in-thing. I picked up an analogue microphone to MADI converter recently and it turns out to have an HDMI output which displays a real time waveform scope for each input channel.
