Are the fumes from (soldering) flux harmful?

To go along with the question on solder types, what about the fumes created from the flux? Most of the smoke you see while soldering is the flux burning away. Is that smoke or the fumes included in it harmful? Let me know what you think below.

In previous WorkBench Wednesdays episodes, we talked about through-hole Workbench Wednesday 04: Capacitor Replacement on a Commodore 64 - A Lesson in Through-Hole Soldering and surface mount soldering Workbench Wednesday 05: Surface Mount Rework Tools. We looked at both lead(Pb) and lead-free solder types. These episodes got me to thinking. What kind of solder does the audience use?
