Interesting design! Very neat how the constant current was made bidirectional with the mini bridge rectifier.

I thought so too! I don't know what the economics were like at the time. I believe transistor were still much more expensive than diodes.

The circuit is sensitive to everything though, supply voltage, temperature, JFET threshold voltage...

Still I think its a neat way to match the charge/discharge current

Another method to generate a triangular waveform from square wave is to use an opamp integrator. However, it is difficult to make a wideband integrator that would give triangular output for all square wave input frequencies.
