&lt;p&gt;In the ancient days of unsealed lead acid car batteries, batteries would be visually checked for suffient electrolyte solution in the cells. Often they just needed distilled water added. Hygrometers can also check specific gravity in case the battery needs some acid added.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
