Very useful and interesting experiment! I hadn't realized that when writing to cards, enough of the signal is radiating at these distances with some NFC antennas. Makes me realize that it would be wise to measure NFC antenna radiation when deploying NFC in some scenarios.

I'd once spoken to a customer who had reservations about NFC for their client (a sensitive client) and I'd assumed it was unfounded.. but now I can see that may not have been the case.

Very interesting indeed and great video.

Anyhow, when road testing the RSL10-SENSE-GEVK board, I found that the 13.56MHz NFC Tag they were using was ISO15693 instead of the usual ISO14443 standard. Whatever ISO15693 protocol does, it modulates the field differently to allow for a greater detection distance and I indeed found that was true. So I would be very curious to see if you conducted the same 0.5 sec dot tests using an ISO15693 tag/reader to see what the difference would be, if any.
