Unlike normal size aquarium with automatic temperature control and oxygen ventilation, mini aquarium is hard to keep water quality good for fishes. I shall try to build one in small pot as present.

Arduino is good in for this proposal, control motor and sensing temperature. But I was intented to try with FPGA Digilent's Cmod S7 Board, it appears that only two ADC ports are not enough. I think Arduino Uno would be quick choice for this Proposal.

Furthermore the Mini Uno is fair interesting design, I would like to roadtest the mini Uno if got one.

RE: Arduino Anniversary Special: Build a Present Using Any Arduino Board to Win a Limited Edition Gold Mini Uno!

My idea for the build-a-present is using the Arduino uno to create a mood light box that you can play with your love ones

This is composed of two boxes controlled by an Arduino Uno that is connected via Bluetooth that you can set the thru an encoder inside. The light tells what mood of the user is and relays the same light to the other box to tell the next user what mood the first box. The other mode is a game mood that you and another player can play with the two boxes.

RE: Arduino Anniversary Special: Build a Present Using Any Arduino Board to Win a Limited Edition Gold Mini Uno!

Cat Lover's Flower Pot

My daughter asked for a 3D-printed flower pot. I don't know why or what, she did not say, but a 3D-printed flower pot she shall get. Of course, it won't be just any 3D-printed flower pot. She likes cats so I've designed it in the shape of a cat. And it should have electronics so it will use a capacitive sensor to detect moisture levels.

The Uno will be used to prototype but a smaller Arduino could be substituted in the final product. Perhaps use WiFi to let her know her plant is in need of attention?

RE: Arduino Anniversary Special: Build a Present Using Any Arduino Board to Win a Limited Edition Gold Mini Uno!

Had not realized that the Minis would be available this soon (still in pre-order, but says shipments start "early December").

I'm going to apply for this Project 14 challenge.

My holiday gift idea consists of two gifts-

Pine cones and customized design/photo on a plexiglass.

I have always found pine cones to be aesthetically pleasing. Pine cones are only found in higher altitude areas. I first got to see them in the Himachal Pradesh, a Himalayan state in India. I have collected some pine cones to gift them to my friends.

The idea is to enclose the pine cone in a cube made of transparent plexiglass/acrylic sheet. Then paste some SMD RGB LEDs on the edge of the plexiglass and interface them with an Arduino. The LEDs on the plexiglass give some nice lighting effects such as fading, blinking and mixing. The pine cone looks like a X-mas tree so it makes a perfect winter holiday present [emoticon:c4563cd7d5574777a71c318021cbbcc8]

Another idea is also similar but instead of a cube of plexiglass, a single sheet with LEDs pasted on the edge gives a nice glow to the entire transparent sheet of plexiglass. One can paste a photo or dried flowers and decorate the plexiglass like a photo frame. The SMD LEDs will again be controlled using Arduino and various light effects like fading, blinking can be generated and multiple colors can be obtained by combining the RGB LEDs. I'll put some pictures of the plexiglass with LEDs as a test which I have already tried out.

RE: Arduino Anniversary Special: Build a Present Using Any Arduino Board to Win a Limited Edition Gold Mini Uno!

This is also blogged in E14 Build a Present

My mum is in assisted living and uses a walker to get around.

To entertain the assisted living residents and my mum for the holidays, I'm going to decorate her walker to look like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

I'm aiming to use an Arduino Nano to read a capacitive touch switch and an accelerometer to decide the walker is in use.

While in use, a servo will move to ring the sleigh bells. The eyes will have long eyelashes, and eyelids will blink.

Some xmas LED lights will be enabled by the Arduino. Series MOSFET s will disable power the lights and servo's power to conserve battery power while idling.

The animation can only be active while the walker is in motion, otherwise it will really annoy people, they wont remember to turn it off and on, and use up the batteries quickly.
