There's a new development environment for the PSoCs: ModusToolbox.

I've used it with PSoC6 and like it. The workflow to configure the onboard hardware is different.

Hi Gene,

Interesting idea, to re-implement with this device. I've not used PSoC so far either, so it's interesting to hear about experiences.

It reminds me of some parts that used to be available, which contained RAM and CPLD and I think EEPROM and some I/O, which were intended for use as 'helper' chips in designs with microcontrollers. I wish I could remember the manufacturer name but I can't recall. Perhaps they were the predecessor of PSoC!

The SMD soldering practice boards are cheap to buy but teach quite a bit on soldering.

Element14 should make some custom branded ones to give out.

Perhaps, so that the passives spell out "E14"?

Cool Project! I like the way in which bits are set diagonally for the rotary action and its customisation.

What other ways can it be implemented,... running a counter? using delay loops between LEDs?........add if you have more ideas!

I noticed that the direction change works quickly from clockwise to anti-clockwise(as in demo video), but while switching it again back to clockwise, it makes a delay(around 7 sec). Is that something because of the resetting or just takes time to figure out the reversal of pulse,........I am unsure, any idea?

Haha, true. PSoC Creator is really amazing software and has a user-friendly interface. I used it for the first time and really liked it. Opens up infinite possibilities of coming up with unique circuits by (re)configuration of blocks.

Getting up from basics upto implementing this pong-pong all using digital logic is insightful. I liked the way control was implemented using quadrature counting method. How would it have been using a joystick which gives X/Y coordinate analog values?

I've got loads of TTL and CMOS logic chips from years and years ago........keep wondering if they'll ever come in useful again??

Now you need to trigger something to persuade the cats to beat a hasty retreat.

A great project. It has been a long time since I have seen such HDL programmes. I came over all misty eyed. I'm not sure I would want to go back to writing VHDL but I did have fun when I was doing it.

What a great project, Dubbie!

I have a load of those logic chips too which are mostly sitting unused.

I recently learned that TI is marketing their small and inexpensive MSP430 chips as kind of a replacement for logic chips like that too. Like you could program it to replace the 7447 decoder, for example. Next you need to add a camera to see what is out there!
