We we got a defect the...</description><dc:language>en-US</dc:language><generator>Telligent Community 12</generator><item><title>RE: Portable addressable led strip tester</title><link>https://community.element14.com/challenges-projects/project14/diytestequipment/b/blog/posts/portable-addressable-led-strip-tester</link><pubDate>Mon, 18 Sep 2017 13:49:03 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:3ccfe07f-e1a9-4a8d-9776-937cff338171</guid><dc:creator>mcb1</dc:creator><slash:comments>1</slash:comments><description>&lt;p&gt;It sounds very much that the system was not designed to be easily serviced (sadly a common problem)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;blockquote class="jive-quote"&gt;&lt;p&gt;I&amp;#39;m trying to figure out a way to make such tester, but the main problem I have is how to deliver enough power for the 3 meter long led strip?&lt;/p&gt;&lt;/blockquote&gt;&lt;p&gt;The strip shown above seems to be 144 LED/metre and are the addressable type.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If they are 144/m then one site said it was 43.2 W/m which is 8.64A at 5v.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This means a single 3m length uses 25.92 Amps.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Having two strips off the same supply is likely to cause issues when they are on white and full brightness.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;You&amp;#39;d also need to verify that there are connectors at various points.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Looking at your picture it seems that there are power and the connection back to the controller.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If you can confirm the number of LEDs per metre and the type (some more sharp photos will help), then we might be able to suggest a controller.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I am suspicious of the power, and curious to know the wiring running back to the controller as I see three wires along with the DC connector.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;The Data and earth are okay but the 5v is only likely to start pulling power from other sections, which may make things worse.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Do you have records of the cause each month, or more correctly what has fixed the apparent problem.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If the LED strips aren&amp;#39;t being replaced, then it&amp;#39;s either connections, controller or the power supplies.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If the strip isn&amp;#39;t the issue, then it sounds like you need a portable strip to prove the rest of the system is working before removing the strips from the ceiling.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;WS21812 strips should work even if you don&amp;#39;t connect the rest of them after that strip.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Cheers&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Mark&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="https://community.element14.com/aggbug?PostID=3528&amp;AppID=175&amp;AppType=Weblog&amp;ContentType=0" width="1" height="1"&gt;</description></item><item><title>RE: Portable addressable led strip tester</title><link>https://community.element14.com/challenges-projects/project14/diytestequipment/b/blog/posts/portable-addressable-led-strip-tester</link><pubDate>Mon, 18 Sep 2017 11:45:15 GMT</pubDate><guid isPermaLink="false">93d5dcb4-84c2-446f-b2cb-99731719e767:3ccfe07f-e1a9-4a8d-9776-937cff338171</guid><dc:creator>den_olli</dc:creator><slash:comments>1</slash:comments><description>&lt;p&gt;max 1 time each month.
