Your post became a very nice introduction for me. And just because I don't know how it works, I want to ask you: doesn't your magnet make a temporal affect? Like, when you remove your magnet, the memory cell is detected as a set bit again?

RE: Flipping Core Memory Bits Directly With a Magnetic Stylus

Andy,

I can just about remember going to the Post Office research centre I think it was, in the final year of my degree as part of the job finding process and seeing a magnetic bubble memory. Under the microscope you could see the bubbles being created. It seemed fantastic technology at the time as it was zero power memory, all of 1Kbytes from what I remember. I think they had become out-of-date before I even finished my final year.

Dubbie

RE: Flipping Core Memory Bits Directly With a Magnetic Stylus

I have a 16 Kword core memory card framed on my wall, just because it looks cool and reminds me of the days I used to work with them.

DAB
