Sci Fi Movie Props, Space, Animals, or Home Decoration Projects?

We will be having a special theme around the Arduino Uno R4 when they become more available in our stores probably sometime in September.

In the meantime, I'd like to set up the next project14 before then. The themes to choose from for the next Project14 are Sci Fi Movie Props, Space, Animals, or Home Decoration projects. Vote in the poll or comment below to let us know what projects you want to work on next!

Nice theme. For the past several days, I’ve been working on a TV movie prop—a Star Trek–style tricorder. It’s starting to look fancy now, and I’m planning to add real functionality to it. I’d love suggestions on what features I could add. It has a TFT display with three tactile buttons, and I can also integrate sensors and a camera depending on the functionality.

Cache was cleared prior to logging onto e14.

Clearing it again has fixed it. So issue has occurred within the first few clicks of visiting the site.

Hi all,

I'm very excited to announce we will be setting up two new Project14 competitions with dates coming soon for a Halloween competition and then a Holidays competition to close out the year.

As part of setting up these new activities I would really like to hear as many opinions from as many people as possible.

What have been your favourite themes, prompts and final creations to date?

What would you love to see generally in future Project14 competitions?

What are your likes and dislikes of Project14?

Are there any theme suggestions you think have gone overlooked and would personally love to take part in?

I think that's always been a focus for the Community and the company.

Part of what drives the Community team is the focus is the suppliers and manufacturers that approach us to work with, I encourage and remind the Community team that we also have some independence to diversify, Farnell, element14 and Newark sell so many different products aimed at different audiences that we can explore them with our campaigns. ( JoRatcliffe and I sometimes touch on and discuss this as we explore options).

I think everyone does this to some extent, it's normal and natural. If anyone has particular feelings or feedback then they're welcome to reach out to me directly, with no judgement.

I like shopping carts for prizes and regularly 4-6 week competitions. If I was busy I could catch the next one.

Right now it's been a year since I've done an E14 project and even longer for a road test. New records.

Personally I'm disengaged and don't check the site nearly as much as I used too. Seems to be an increased business focus on embedded system developers. Everything changes and evolves, hope ii works out well for Farrell.

While I respect that members may point fingers at themselves with some of this, after helping to resolve the Time and Space project14 winners, and with the restructuring that's happened, I can say for certain that over the years some of the Community team got in their own way. It could have been a lot easier for them.

Project14 Prizes

Hi ! I'm a bit disappointed to see the change in prizes for the project14 competition. While I understand the decision to switch to a kit, I think many past participants were looking forward to the shopping carts.

The shopping carts offered a great opportunity for winners to experiment with new components for their next projects, learn more about Farnell and Newark's product offerings and provide valuable feedback through reviews and suggestions about the products and the shopping experience.

I hope this change doesn't discourage future participation in the competition.

I too had an admiration for and recommended Apple products 30 years ago. My admiration for Apple products was so deep that it inspired me to pursue a career in software development. When I finally landed a job at Apple, I was eager to contribute to a company I admired. However, my enthusiasm quickly faded when I witnessed the company's less-than-ideal practices firsthand.

One particularly troubling incident occurred during a marketing campaign where customers could receive a discount for turning in their old computers. As a volunteer for Engineers Without Borders, I suggested that these second-hand devices be donated to those in need. To my dismay, Apple's response was a resounding no. Instead, they had planned to publicly destroy the computers with a steamroller as part of a cynical marketing stunt.

This experience shattered my admiration for Apple. It has been my only resignation from a job. That said, I have to admit that I still have an iPad Air and a Mac Book Air that I won in other design challenges and that I use to keep up to date in my profession as an application developer. At work I develop payment applications for iPhone and Android. On a personal level I don't have a smartphone, I'm a free man 😛

I agree with javagoza For years, I wanted to have an oscilloscope. Project14 cart prize enabled me to buy my choice of scope from the website and now I have my first ever USB oscilloscope. The cart coupons were are great way to buy what you need and use them for future projects. There are already enough contests like design challenges that provide consumer electronics - laptops, tablets, etc as prizes and not to forget the kit that you get to keep for participating in the design contests.
I hope the cart prizes are restored in near future.

The problem that I’ve had in the past with shopping carts is the availability of items. Farnell/Newark hasn’t in the past done as well as other distributors in terms of inventory of the types of items that would help me most for new projects. I buy a lot of sub $100 development boards and sensors and have had difficulty finding parts in stock. And backordering stuff was a nightmare for Tariq because the process didn’t work.

I much prefer the Visa/Mastercard ecard. I default to checking Newark first but would like the ability to purchase something if it were only available elsewhere.
