This uses the TI LM3410X driver chip. There is also an 'Ext' port on the PCB for connecting up an Arduino or whatever in future, for providing dimming.

[View:/resized-image/__size/776x340/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-e0d6062f-c110-4f76-a11a-4f1f8d1eff81/4010.contentimage_5F00_185507.png:776:340]

For the LEDs, I've made a 3mm hole for soldering a copper rod, if it works then this is a super-cheap (and easy) way of getting the heat out.

[View:/resized-image/__size/770x649/__key/commentfiles/f7d226abd59f475c9d224a79e3f0ec07-e0d6062f-c110-4f76-a11a-4f1f8d1eff81/6813.contentimage_5F00_185508.png:770:649]

The rear is just copper, for a bit more cooling. The two side holes are for attaching the reflector (the same part number as mentioned before), it isn't designed for this LED, but it looks like the XM-L2 dies are at identical height to XP-E, and the angle for illumination spread is near-identical too. I am a huge Star Wars fan. Star Trek is one of the best sci-fi themed shows. All though I am not a true fan, I still like Star Trek.

It cannot be denied that both have inspired the minds of young engineers and scientists. Star Trek and Star Wars were both created around the time humanity took it's first steps into space.

So much of the technology we have today was once thought of as science fiction. It's amazing how the human mind can be inspired by fiction to influence reality.

Thank you for this post. I have been working on an idea for a Star Wars project. It has been somewhat challenging and I have considered seeking outside help. The idea is a toy hack. I would really like to see if it could be featured on TBHS if such a thing is possible. I am a huge fan of the show. I believe that Ben Heck and team would be the most qualified for this project.

I would like to donate the toy and parts that I have to see this project completed. And I would like the toy given away to a good home. Does anyone know if this is possible?

RE: Geeked Out Business Cards

Nice build.

Not sure of its use. I prefer the old fashioned hand off so you can look people in the eyes to assess if they are just going to toss them after you leave.

DAB
